Leave to Buy iPhone 16 – iPhone 17 News has Already Leaked Big Changes

We are expecting four total models in 2025: the Apple iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 slim or “Air.” There will be no iPhone 17 Plus, with Apple doing away with the “Plus” lineup. The slimmed down Apple iPhone 17 won’t be a replacement for the iPhone 17 Plus, instead making a debut as a new device in the lineup. Rumors about exactly what we can expect from the new iPhone are mixed at this time, but we can count on a thinner iPhone 17 with a display that’s around 6.6 inches. It has been likened to a MacBook Air, with the iPhone 17 Pro serving as the MacBook Pro in the analogy.

The rumour mill never rests when it comes to Apple’s iPhones.

The iPhone 16 series has just been released, but whispers about the Apple iPhone 17 are already being heard. As Apple is notoriously secretive, these early leaks and rumours only add to the excitement.

If you want to know why you should wait for the iPhone 17, here’s a round-up of everything we know so far about the entire lineup. Remember, however, that nothing is set in stone until Apple announces it.

Apple iPhone 17 Released Date

Apple typically unveils its new Apple iPhone lineup in September, often on the Tuesday of the second week. Based on this pattern, we can expect the iPhone 17 to be announced around 9 September 2025.

Here’s a look at the release dates of recent iPhone’s:

  • Apple iPhone 17: 9 September 2025
  • Apple iPhone 16: 9 September 2024
  • Apple iPhone 15: 12 September 2023
  • Apple iPhone 14: 7 September 2022
  • Apple iPhone 13: 14 September 2021
  • Apple iPhone 12: 13 October 2020 (delayed due to Covid)

Pre-orders usually open on the Friday following the announcement, with devices shipping a week later. Occasionally, specific models may experience slight delays due to production issues.

2025 Apple iPhone 17

We’re still early in the iPhone 16 release cycle, but rumors about the Apple iPhone 17 models slated for 2025 have already started circulating.

2025 could bring one of the biggest updates to the iPhone’s design that we’ve seen since the 2017 iPhone X, with Apple rumored to be planning for an all-new iPhone 17 “slim” that has a much thinner design, a new display size, a different look for the camera, and more.

Because the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes, the iPhone 17 slim will come in right in the middle of those two devices in terms of size. Apple may also increase the overall size of the standard Apple iPhone 17.

While some rumors have suggested that the slimmer iPhone 17 will be a high-end device that’s even more expensive than the apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, other rumors have positioned it as a device that’s in between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro models. One rumor says it will have a narrower Dynamic Island and a centered camera, while another says it will include a single-lens rear camera and a standard Dynamic Island. Rumors should become clearer as 2025 approaches.

All four iPhones released in 2025 are expected to be updated with ProMotion display technology with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate for smoother scrolling and video content. Rumors also suggest that Apple is planning for an anti-reflective display that is more scratch resistant than the current Ceramic Shield.

As for camera updates, Apple is said to be working on an updated 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens, and the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max could include an upgraded 48-megapixel Telephoto camera, which would be an improvement over the current 12-megapixel sensor.

The higher-end iPhone 17 Pro models may get Wi-Fi 7 and 12GB RAM, with the less expensive models to get Wi-Fi 6E and 8GB RAM.

Apple iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro

Apple will sell the Apple iPhone 17 Slim alongside a standard iPhone 17, an iPhone 17 Pro, and an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple is said to be eliminating the “Plus” phone from the 2025 lineup due to poor sales.

Apple could introduce a new display size for the standard iPhone 17 model in 2025. The iPhone 17 could measure in at 6.3 inches, up from 6.1 inches, which would make it the same size as the iPhone 16 Pro planned for 2024. Rumors suggest that Apple plans to eliminate the Plus model in 2025, so there may be only a single lower-cost device, and at 6.3 inches, it would be in between the size of the current 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. That would make the display sizes 6.3 inches, 6.6 inches (slim model), 6.3 inches (Pro) and 6.9 inches (Pro Max).

Design and body

The iPhone 15 was the subject of Apple’s most recent design changes to its iPhone range, with a matte glass back using color infusion technology and a new Titanium chassis. That’s expected to remain for the iPhone 16 later this year.

However, there aren’t currently any indications that Apple is planning anything significant in the way of design changes for the iPhone 17.

Models and Dimension

One of the biggest things to look forward to with the iPhone 17 is the introduction of a new model to Apple’s usual four-model line-up for every release. We saw with the iPhone 14 that Apple scrapped the ‘mini’ and introduced the ‘Plus’, which had a larger 6.7-inch display.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted that a new iPhone Ultra could ultimately replace the ‘Pro Max’ model, while Ming-Chi Kuo once referred to the iPhone 15 Pro Max as the iPhone 15 Ultra before it was released.

Meanwhile, Gurman has also insinuated that an Ultra model could be introduced as “something even higher end” than the Pro Max.

As a result, there is an expectation that, sooner or later, Apple will go with an Ultra model in the future. It wasn’t included in the iPhone 15 lineup up and while there are rumors there could be an iPhone 16 Ultra, it might be more realistic to expect to see it in the iPhone 17 lineup.

After all, it certainly makes sense. Apple already has the Apple Watch Ultra, so bringing synchronizing names across multiple devices seems like a natural step to take.

Elsewhere, there are some 9to5Mac reports that Apple could introduce an iPhone 17 Slim. If that’s the case and the Ultra does also make its debut, then we might be looking at a six-model series for the first ever time.

Display and Size

In terms of display technology, the biggest rumor on the grapevine is that iPhone 17 is the introduction of a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display to every model in the line-up. LTPO is the technology that powers OLED displays in Apple’s premium Watches and iPhones, but now it could be extended to all models.

Earlier in 2024, reliable Korean news site, The Elec, claimed all of Apple’s iPhone 17 models would include Apple’s Always-On Display and a 120Hz Pro Motion refresh rate. This has been reported by several other outlets, so there seems to be a lot of truth in the reports.

Hardware and Caching

As reported by DIGITIMES, Apple will be first in line to receive chips made using the 2nm process. The iPhone 16 will be powered by the all-new A18 chips that were built using 3nm.

But it’s believed the iPhone 17 will boast a more powerful, compact and dense A19 chip that estimates suggest will add 10-15% to overall performance and a 25-30% reduction in power consumption.

iPhone 17 Camera Update

We’re used to seeing the three-lens camera set-up on iPhones, with the main camera, Ultra Wide and Telephoto lens becoming staples on iPhone models.

According to industry analyst Jeff Pu (via Tweets by theapplehub“>@TheAppleHub), plans are in place to do the same with the telephoto camera for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which would mean all three cameras would then be capable of shooting in 48MP ProRaw format.

Meanwhile, in January 2024, Ming-Chi Kuo said there were plans to significantly upgrade the iPhone 17’s front facing camera lens, which could see a boost from 12MP to 24MP. Fantastic news if you love taking selfies, even more so if you spend a lot of time on video calls.
